Seven Bucks Productions and Cadence13 Announce Launch of “WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?” Podcast Interview Series

Writer and Host Andrew Jenks expands Season 2 of his hit show with new twelve-part interview series featuring in-depth conversations with notable guests including General Stanley McChrystal, filmmaker Andrew Stanton and more.

Jenks kicks off new series with filmmaker Erin Lee Carr at SXSW.

New York, NY (March 13, 2019) – Seven Bucks Productions, Andrew Jenks Entertainment, and Cadence13 today announced the launch of a new interview series on the hit podcast WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?, written and hosted by documentarian Andrew Jenks.

The WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? interview series marks an expansion of Season 2 with twelve new special episodes, and will launch on March 13, 2019 on Apple Podcasts and wherever podcasts are available.

On WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?, Jenks examines and contextualizes famous figures and historical or widely-publicized events, while discovering untold stories and unraveling newfound narratives. Using today’s technology and ever-growing access to information, Jenks takes the listeners on his own rogue investigations on dodging conspiracy theories and often throwing a wrench in the gears of history, getting either closer to the truth or creating more questions.

Season 1 of WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? reached Number 1 on the Apple Podcast charts and Season 2 broke new ground on a wide-range of topics, including previously unknown information on the “sonic attacks” in Cuba to discussions on Kanye West and more.

Now, on the new WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? interview series, Jenks will sit down with a wide-range of notable personalities to discuss “what really happened” during a specific, significant time in their lives. Jenks will kick off the series today, March 13 with a special interview with filmmaker Erin Lee Carr conducted at SXSW. Additional guests throughout the rest of the season include: retired four-star General Stanley McChrystal; Academy Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton; cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky, who gave the most popular TedTalk of 2018; New York Times bestselling author Suki Kim and Matthew Heineman, Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker. Jenks, a film and television documentarian by trade, first received notoriety through his notable works including MTV’s World of Jenks, HBO’s Room 335 and the ESPN 30 for 30 short Posterized. Now in the podcast world, he has found another form of storytelling.

 WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? is produced by Seven Bucks Productions, a multi-platform production company co-founded by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, which pioneers original content across all entertainment verticals. In line with Jenks’ goal of authentic storytelling, they share a passion for creating strong and innovative content.

Andrew Jenks is an award-winning filmmaker, TV producer, and writer. Jenks writes and hosts the critically-acclaimed documentary podcast series WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?, produced by Dwayne Johnson, and #1 on Apple Podcasts. At age 19, Jenks moved into an assisted living facility for two months. What started as a simple, low-budget documentary turned into an international hit, ANDREW JENKS, ROOM 335, premiering on HBO in January 2008. The New York Post said, “It’s almost impossible to believe that a kid could produce a documentary like this. It’s a gorgeous, hilarious, sad, wonderful, unblinking look at the joy of life – even at the end of it.”At 21-years-old, ESPN Films financed the award-winning film THE ZEN OF BOBBY V., which tracked Bobby Valentine, an American baseball coach who had become a national icon in Japan. The film premiered at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival.

In 2010, Jenks created MTV’s WORLD OF JENKS, focusing on stories not normally told: from a young homeless woman to a young adult with Autism. The premiere marked MTV’s largest in history with nearly 10 million viewers. US World News and Report said the show was “a raw, intimate look at daily struggles and victories, and what it means to be a young person today. Jenks was also the lead correspondent for MTV News’ coverage of the 2012 Presidential Election. The Daily News remarked that “…Jenks has been a voice for his generation for some time…and is carrying the weight of a potential 45 million younger voters on his shoulders.” In 2013, Jenks teamed with Scholastic to publish his book MY ADVENTURES AS A YOUNG FILMMAKER. In 2014, Jenks directed ESPN’s 30/30 short film POSTERIZED, part of ESPN’s Emmy Award-Winning series. Jenks also directed the MAC Aids Fund feature film IT’S NOT OVER, which he shot in India, South Africa, and America and premiered around the world on World Aids Day, including Netflix and Hulu. In 2015, CNN Films released Jenks’ award-winning short film, ALL-AMERICAN FAMILY. The film chronicles an all-Deaf high school championship football team. In 2015, Jenks premiered his award-winning feature documentary, dream/killer, which The New York Times said, “elicits incredulity, frustration and astonishment…is fast-paced and frightening”. He subsequently created and executive produced the documentary series, UNLOCKING THE TRUTH, which contributed to the release of Kalvin Michael Smith (wrongfully incarcerated for 20 years). Jenks has also developed two scripted fictional series with ABC Studios and HBO respectively. Jenks is the founder of the largest high school film festival in the world, The All-American High School Film Festival. The annual event is held at the AMC Movie Theaters in New York City, the largest theater in the United States. Past judges include James Earl Jones and Kristen Stewart. The festival has given over $1,000,000 in scholarships to students from over 25 countries.
